James E. Combs, 1933-2003, Marshall

James "Jim" E. Combs, 70, of Marshall, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at his home.

He was born March 20, 1933, in Montgomery City, a son of Edward and Clara Combs. On Jan. 14, 1967, in Sedalia, he was married to Maxine Huff, who survives of the home.

Mr. Combs lived in Marshall for several years. He worked for Coca-Cola and Wonder Bread, before working at Con Agra for 22 years. He was an Army veteran. He was a member of American Legion Post 558 in Malta Bend and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2646 in Marshall. He had served as commander of Am Vets.

Also surviving are four sons, Earl Doud, of Marshall, Dewane Dunning, of Longwood, Fla., Mark Dunning and Donnie Dunning, both of New York; six daughters, Phyllis Plains, Vickie Surber and Wanda Money, all of Marshall, Helen Scarborough, of Knob Noster, Melinda Dunning, of New York, and Michelle Dunning, of Reno, Nev.; a sister, Helen Long, of Hannibal; 21 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sweeney-Reser-Wills Funeral Home in Marshall, with the Rev. Vernon Maxted officiating. Pallbearers will be Glen Allred, Mike Dalton, James Huff, Cotton Richards, Dave Robbins, Don Roettgen and Wesley Winfrey. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
